At Shell we are working to become one of the most diverse and inclusive organisations in the world, a place where everyone feels valued and respected.
We are taking steps to create an environment where everyone – from our employees, to our customers, partners and suppliers – feels valued, respected and has a strong sense of belonging.
To achieve this, we must ensure all people are treated fairly, irrespective of their race, colour, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, disability, ethnic origin, nationality or other status.
That starts with creating and promoting an inclusive workplace, where all staff can perform at their best. It means valuing our differences in an organisation whose employees span more than 70 countries.
We have promoted diversity and inclusion at Shell for many years, through our policies, leadership programmes and employee resource groups or networks. These 96 networks represent people in different areas including gender, race, ethnicity, culture, levels of experience, people with disabilities and sexual orientation. They help support Shell employees’ personal and professional development.
We have made progress in building a diverse and inclusive workplace, but we know that we can do more.
Everyone at Shell is expected to live by our core values of honesty, integrity and respect for people. These standards are set out in the Shell General Business Principles and our Code of Conduct. In line with our Code of Conduct, we offer equal opportunities to everyone. We work in line with local policies, laws and regulations.
In 2021, we launched a new mandatory training course, respect in the Workplace, to help all our employees consciously include and respect others and meet our standards for acceptable behaviours. We expect our leaders to live by our values and demonstrate these behaviours.
Our Global Helpline allows employees, contractors, customers and suppliers to raise concerns and report instances of potential non-compliance with our values and principles.
Shell will also become a stronger company, with a richness of experience and views that will help us innovate and grow.
